The native Nebraskan is best known for his Mistborn series in addition to finishing The Wheel of Time series following the passing of the original author, Robert Jordan. He also writes the Alcatraz series and The Stormlight Archive (planned for 10 books). Sanderson once edited the Leading Edge magazine while he was studying for his Master’s degree at Brigham Young University. He now teaches creative writing at the same school. Brandon now resides in Utah with his wife and children.

J.K. Rowling is of course the infamous English author, who wrote the Harry Potter series of books (I still prefer Enid Blyton!).

Suzanne Collins is an American author who specializes in books for children and young adults. She is best known for writing The Hunger Games series. Suzanne not only writes her own series, but also has contributed towards the Shelby Woo and Charlie McButton series. In addition to being a popular novelist, she has also written television shows for Nickelodeon, including working as the head writer for Clifford’s Puppy Days.

Robert Jordan was the pseudonym of James Oliver Rigney, Jr. (1948-2007), an American novelist of fantasy novels. During his career, Rigney also used the pen names of Reagan O’Neal and Jackson O’Reilly. He is best known for The Wheel of Time series.

Rick Riordan is an American author who writes young adult fantasy novels and detective fiction for adults. Riordan’s series include the Olympian Demigod series (Percy Jackson and The Heroes of Olympus) and the Kane Chronicles for young adults as well as Tres Navarre for adults. His novels contain a lot of mythology, including Greek, Roman and Egyptian mythology.

Stephenie Meyer is an American novelist and film producer who is best known for writing the Twilight Saga books. Within three years of her writing her first book, Twilight, her book had already been adapted to a major motion picture that made $400 million… and that was only the beginning. The next two books, New Moon and Eclipse, were adapted to film and made about $700 million each, proving that a simple romance story about two supernatural beings going after one girl is all you need to capture people’s imagination in print or on the big screen.

Pierce Brown is an American author of young adult fantasy novels. He writes the Red Rising Trilogy. Pierce grew up building forts and setting traps for his cousins. After graduating college, Pierce’s plan was to go to Hogwarts like Harry Potter, but he instead ended up trying to make it as a writer and working as a social media manager at a new tech company, working on the Disney lot, as an NBC page and was an aide on a U.S. Senate campaign. Pierce currently lives in Los Angeles, California.
William Gibson
William Gibson is an American-Canadian author of speculative fiction, including cyberpunk and steampunk. He coined the term “cyberspace” back in 1982 in the short story Burning Chrome. He is perhaps best known for his debut novel, Neuromancer, where he elaborated on and popularized the concept of cyberspace. Gibson left the United States during the Vietnam War in order to avoid the draft, settling in Canada and becoming a full-time writer. Although you would think Gibson would own all of the latest technology, he says that computers themselves don’t interest him, but rather “how people behave around them.”

American author George R.R. Martin (or “GRRM” for short) is best known for his Game Of Thrones novels that have recently been adapted into a popular fantasy HBO television series. In 2011, he was named as one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine.
J.R.R. Tolkien
J.R.R. Tolkien (1892-1973) was an English author best known for his high fantasy novels including The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and others. Aside from being an author, Tolkien was also a poet, university professor and philologist. Due to Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings books, he was able to breathe new life into the fantasy (and more specifically, high fantasy) genre. The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit have each been adapted into other mediums several times, but the most famous adaptations are the Peter Jackson film adaptations of each. Evidently, his legacy lives on decades after his passing due to movie adaptations of his work and as a major inspiration to any fantasy novelist.
C.S. Lewis
C.S. Lewis (1898-1963) was an Irish author who was best known for writing The Chronicles of Narnia. He wrote fantasy and sci-fi books and plenty of non-fiction. His books were largely targetted at children. His work would contain several Christian themes. Lewis was a close friend of J.R.R. Tolkien, as they served on the faculty together at Oxford. Lewis died on the same day as John F. Kennedy and Aldous Huxley – November 22, 1963.

American author Michael Connelly is famous for his detective novels starring Harry Bosch. The popular series of books features LAPD detective Harry Bosch solving many mysteries and crimes.

Harlan Coben is an American author of mystery and thriller novels. He is a rather unique author in the sense that he focuses strongly on both standalone novels and a series of novels starring a recurring character.
